Study Abroad - Florence, Italy

Gonzaga in Florence May - June 2024

  • Spending six weeks immersed in Italian culture was not only an opportunity to broaden my perspectives and grow as a globally engaged citizen but also a deeply meaningful connection to my Italian heritage. During my time abroad, I took courses in Global Spirituality and Christian Spirituality, which offered valuable insights into diverse religious practices and traditions. In Florence, I had the privilege of connecting weekly with a local family outside the city, which deepened my understanding of Italian language and culture and gave me a special chance to experience the traditions of my ancestral roots firsthand. Weekends were spent traveling, both within Italy and beyond its borders. Some of my favorite moments included visiting the iconic Florence Duomo, hiking through the breathtaking Dolomites, and exploring the stunning Vintar Gorge and Lake Bled in Slovenia. These experiences not only enriched my understanding of different cultures but also strengthened my personal connection to my Italian heritage, leaving a lasting impact on me both personally and professionally. I am deeply grateful for this unforgettable opportunity and for everyone who helped make it possible.

  • During the summer of 2023, I had the opportunity to take part in a 3 week field study in the Upper Missouri River Breaks in Montana. During our time on the river, we took two courses from Gonzaga professors: Ethics and Parks, Forests, and Wildlife. These courses deepened my understanding of conservation and sustainability. Some of my favorite moments included canoeing across diverse landscapes and engaging in meaningful conversations with my peers along the river. This experience highlighted that effective conservation is about more than protecting nature, and requires fostering a deep understanding of the environment's interconnectedness with human well-being and future sustainability. Additionally, I learned that building meaningful relationships requires empathy, shared experiences, and open communication, which strengthen connections and create lasting bonds.
